William "Willie" D. Peto Obituary

William “Willie” D. Peto, 62, passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2021.

Willie is survived by his life partner of 25 years Trina May; his mother Wanda (Curry/Peto) Valdez; his son Erik (daughter-in-law Kimberly); grandson Ryland; brother Calvin Joe; sister-in-law Imelda (Emy) Peto; sister Gail (Steve) Barth; brother Terry; brother Ron (Beth) Couch; and sister Lauren (Tom) Ungaro. He leaves behind nine (9) nieces and nephews and too many people to count that he considered family.

Willie was born on November 22, 1958, in Harlan, KY to Wanda and Calvin Turner. At the age of 8 he moved to Chicago where he was raised with his siblings by his mother and William (Bill) Peto, who he considered his dad. He attended Sullivan High School in the Rogers Park neighborhood and he remained in contact with many of his classmates throughout the years.

His dedication and strong work ethic resulted in a 35-year career at Makita USA. It was through his wit and personality that he brought both lightheartedness and commitment to his job and those he worked with.

Many people experienced his generous and caring nature from mowing and shoveling, home projects, to even helping people move. If you called him and needed help, he would be there without a second thought.

Willie spent several years volunteering for an organization that provides therapeutic equestrian activities for people with disabilities. His enjoyment came from being around the horses almost as much as the kids he was helping.

At the local VFW 5040, he developed amazing friendships and made lasting memories. It was here that he felt at home where many a glass was raised in celebration, mutual support, and camaraderie.

Of all the people in Willie’s life, no one meant more to him than his life partner, son, and grandson. It was together with Trina where they shared love, laughter, and dreams of the future for their family. Willie showed what it is to be a wonderful father and grandfather, by teaching life lessons and offering guidance that will be cherished forever.

It was Willie’s infectious nature that drew people in, and he will always be remembered for his strength, smiling face, contagious laugh, big heart, and unique humor.
