William “Bill” J. Gast, age 82, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on April 24, 2024 in McHenry

He was born on September 21, 1941 in Chicago to William O. and Lillian (Kosick) Gast. He married Penny Freund on October 8, 1994.

Bill worked for McHenry County Animal Control for over 25 years. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Woodstock. He was an avid Cubs, Bears and Elvis fan. He and his wife Penny enjoyed vacationing and spending time on the beach. Bill enjoyed his swimming pool, music fests and spending time with his family.

Bill is survived by his loving wife Penny; step-children, Stephanie (Jason) Hodgson and Travis (Kim) Hauri; grandchildren, Marissa (Michael) Hauri, Nikolas (Brittany) Hauri and Tom (Mariah) Hauri, daughter Stacy.

He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lori Eddy.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
