Wesley Clay Reeves, age 93 of Woodstock, IL passed away peacefully April 29th, 2022 at Crescent Care Nursing Home, Elgin, IL. He was born on April 3, 1929 in Shreveport, LA, the son of Clyde Wesley Reeves and Gladys Porter Reeves. He married Elizabeth Ann (Hornsey) Reeves at St Matthew's Church, Monroe, LA in 1957. He enlisted into the US Navy in 1950 and served until 1952.
In 1966, he and his wife Elizabeth and daughter, Erin moved from Houston, Texas to Chicago, IL where he lived for 43 years. He was a creative writer for several large advertising agencies including Leo Burnett. He was involved with Holy Name Cathedral, assisting priests with communion at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. At retirement he continued to work for Marshall Fields and Bloomingdale's men's department always enjoying talking to people and helping find that perfect suit.
In 2009, after his wife passed away, he moved to Woodstock near his daughter and her family. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church and sang with the Cary Canaries. He embodied creativity in all that he did and loved jazz music, English Literature and ancient history. In his last 3 years at Sunrise Assisted Living, Crystal Lake, he taught fellow residents drawing and exhibited his own art.
Wesley was lovingly known as "Poppy", the proud grandfather to Tessa and Noah and great grandfather to Beau.
He is survived by two daughters, Erin (William) Denk, Rachel (Chris) Schwab; grandchildren, Tessa Fisher Denk and Noah Schwab and great grandson, Beau William Skaronea; a brother, James Reeves and sister, Sharon Reeves Collins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Ann (Hornsey) Reeves and his parents Clyde and Gladys Reeves.
A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at the Schneider Leucht Merwin Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock from 10:00 am until the 12:00 noon Memorial Service. Interment services will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.
