Silvano Calvano Obituary

Silvano Calvano 87, of Gilbert, AZ, and Pingree Grove, IL, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.

​Silvano was born in San Lucido, Italy on September 19, 1936, to Arturo and Carmelinda (Molinaro) Calvano.  ​He emigrated to the United States in 1956 and married Maria Franzese on May 7, 1960, ​at St. Anthony Church in Roseland, IL.  They were married for 63 years.

Silvano worked for various railroad companies ​in Illinois as an inspector until his retirement. ​He and Maria enjoyed winters in Arizona where they were both active in the Trilogy Bocce Club.  Silvano took first place in many bocce tournaments and even took first place in the Arizona Bocce Senior Olympics.   He ​loved watching soccer​ games, having been a professional soccer player in Italy in his youth.  He and Maria spent summers in Illinois and Silvano loved playing cards with his friends at his Carillon Community Center, where he helped establish the Bocce League.  ​He enjoyed life, but most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  His family will continue to love and cherish his memory.  

Silvano is survived by his wife Maria; two daughters Carme (Raymond) Henrich and Ellen (Christopher) Weber; five grandchildren ​Ben Henrich (Cassie Brennan), Lauren Henrich, Elizabeth Henrich, Mallory Weber, ​Olivia Weber; two great-grandchildren James and Blake Henrich; also one brother​, three sisters​ and many sister/brother in-laws.

Silvano was preceded in death by his parents; and a son,​Enrico Arturo Calvano.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 23, 2024 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am followed by Mass at 10:00 am at St Mary Catholic Church, 10307 Dundee Road, Huntley, IL 60142. Private burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock, Illinois, will be at a later date and time.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Arizona on February 4, 2024 at Trilogy at Power Ranch, Gilbert, Arizona.

The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
