Robert L. McMasters, 94, of Woodstock, Illinois passed away at home Wednesday, November 8th, after a brief battle with cancer.
A proud native of Keokuk, Iowa, he was born December 19th, 1928 to Warren and Genevieve (Crotty) McMasters.
He served in the U.S. Air Force, graduated from St. Ambrose College, and worked as an adjuster and executive for insurance claims in Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, Minneapolis, and Houston, before retiring to Woodstock.
In 1960 he married Joanne Knapp, and to this union were born five sons, Richard L., James W. (Nanette Norton), Thomas L. (Catherine Miller), Kevin N. (Elizabeth), and Daniel R. (Malgorzata), who survive him, along with grandchildren Caelan, Stefania, and Ian.
He was predeceased by his parents, siblings Warren McMasters, Catherine Kaping, and Mary Bracher, and his wife of 54 years.
He took great pride in his family's accomplishments, and never missed a Northwestern football game or an opportunity for a road trip. The family would like to thank his long-time physician George Urban and nurse Linda Caez, and nurse Jarek Wroblewski of JourneyCare hospice for their compassionate care during Dad's final days.
There will be a visitation at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1121 N. Seminary Ave., in Woodstock at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14th, followed by a blessing from Fr. Burt Absalon, with interment at Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock.
