Phyllis R. Close

Phyllis R. Close 84, of Woodstock, formerly of Des Plaines, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, 2023 at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington.

She was born August 6, 1939 in Havertown, Pennsylvania to William and Charlotte Sherman. She married Roger Close on September 5, 1958, in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Phyllis was an Accountant and had several roles in community organizations including Board Member and Treasurer. She traveled to every State and loved to go on cruises.  Her greatest passion were teddy bears and was the proud Chairbear of the Good Bears of the World for 26 years, in which she donated 1000s of stuffed bears to kids in need through emergency services and other organizations. She was recently awarded the 2023 Member of the Year award from the Woodstock Moose Lodge 1329. In 2015, she received the Harold Buschkopf Community Service Award from the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce https://www.woodstockilchamber.com/awards-and-recognition/.

Survivors include; a son, Doug (Kathie) and grandsons, Jacob, Zachary and Ryan; sisters, Janice (David) Dyson and Bernice Sherman; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; parents; in-laws; and nephews, Lowell and Daniel.

A private interment will be at the McHenry County Memorial Park Mausoleum next to her husband Roger.
