Margaret O'Grady Obituary

Margaret (nee Vogt) O’Grady, 88, of Woodstock, IL, passed away January 8, 2021 at Valley Hi Nursing Home; just 10 days shy of her 89th birthday.

She was born on January 18, 1932 in Chicago to Helmut and Maude (nee Reynolds) Vogt.

Margaret’s life centered around her beloved St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Hartland where she was an organist and volunteer for many years. Before retiring, Margaret traveled 5 hours a day from Woodstock into Chicago where she served as Bursar of Columbia College. When she retired in 1996, she and her husband, Walter O’Grady, filled their passports with many stamps from their travels around the word. Her most cherished visits were to family in Germany. When not on the road, Margaret and Walter relaxed in their hometown of Woodstock with their beloved dogs.

Her last years were spent at the Valley Hi Nursing Home. Margaret and her roommate Flo loved the community at Valley Hi and considered it home. During this very difficult time, Margaret’s family deeply appreciates the Valley Hi staff and the friendships she made there.

Margaret leaves behind her brother, Richard Vogt, sister, Joann (nee Vogt) Prandini, eight nieces & nephews, and 13 great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter and her parents.

To honor Margaret, please consider a donation in her memory to the Catholic Relief Services and/or the ASPCA.

The Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church 15012 St. Patrick Rd Woodstock, IL 60098. Interment will be private.
