Lewis Hague Obituary

Lewis Hague, WWII veteran age 105 passed away February 9th, 2023. He was born November 4th, 1917 in Talleyville, Delaware. Lewis was a member of the 381st Engineer Combat Battalion and was a member of the surrender honor guard at Bordeaux, France with a battlefield commission as a 2nd lieutenant June 11th, 1945.

Lewis was one of 12 brothers & sisters and was part of starting the first volunteer fire department in Talleyville, Delaware.

Lewis married the love of his life Alberta (Helen) Heal May 1st, 1942 in Delaware. They had a beautiful marriage of 68 years before her passing in 2011.

Lewis was an avid woodworker and made many pieces of furniture for family and friends. Lewis also loved working on and making clocks and even custom-made grandfather clocks for each of his grandchildren as wedding gifts. Besides woodworking, Lewis enjoyed golfing and working in his garden and taking care of his numerous tomato plants which were turned into spicy hot tomato juice for Bloody Marys, which he always bragged about!

Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, William Hague & Bessie (Wilson) Hague, 5 brothers, 6 sisters, his wife Alberta (Helen) Hague, son Richard Hague and daughter-in- law Gail (Hague) Donovan.

Lewis is survived by his daughter Madylon (John) Clinge, granddaughters Melissa McCain, Rene' (Edward) Hubal, Dawn (Marshal) Nitti, great grandchildren Tyler Hubal, Jon and Andrew McCain, Allison, Alec and Anthony Nitti and great great granddaughter Aurora Hubal.

 Any donations may be made to unicefusa.org for earthquake relief in Turkey and Syria.
