Obituary

Karl E. “Bud” Fritz, 85, of Woodstock, died Saturday, June 17, 2023 at Alpine Fireside Health Center, Rockford, Illinois.

He was born in Woodstock on August 25, 1937, to Karl G. and Hazel (Anderson) Fritz. He married Zelma Wilson on February 27, 1965 in Marengo.

Karl graduated in 1955 from Woodstock High School. He enlisted in the United States Army where he spent the next 4 years traveling the world. After his discharge from the Army he joined the Woodstock Police Department in 1962 and was employed there through 1978. He then worked at Peet Freight until his retirement.

Karl was an avid pigeon flyer his entire life and raised chickens as well. He also loved his Harley Davidson motorcycle, taking his last ride at age 82.

Karl is survived by 3 sons, Paul (Nanci) Fritz, Michael Fritz, and Steven Schufft; a daughter, Marilyn (James) Kelly; 8 grandchildren, Jolene (George) Karfis, Katherine (Rusty) Fowler, Emma (Mitchell) Trimble, Jennifer (Andy) Kagel, Abbi Brock, James Karl Kelly, Rylan Fritz, and Kristen (Gabriel Lovett) Fritz, 6 great-grandchildren, Mariana and Elena Karfis, Margaret Kelly-Evertsen, Michael Brock, Wyatt Fowler, and Jayden Lovett; also, his longtime friend Mary Ann Rada. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Marilyn Schufft.
