Hazel Kniebusch Obituary

Hazel Marie Kniebusch, 96, of Woodstock, passed away July 14, 2021, in Huntley, Illinois. 

She was born in 1924, to Frank and Madaline (Lang) Beilke in Woodstock at the home of her grandparents Olive and Will Lang.  She attended Woodstock Grade Schools and graduated with the Class of 1942 from Woodstock Community High School.  On April 11, 1943, she married William “Bill” Kniebusch in the First United Methodist Church in Woodstock by the Rev. Merle English.

Hazel was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church of Woodstock, being confirmed in 1937.  She sang in the church choir for 40 years, taught Sunday School, served on the Board of Trustees and other church committees and was President of United Methodist Women.

Hazel volunteered for many projects and causes including her church, as a Girl Scout Leader and   the McHenry County Historical Society.  She was Treasurer of McHenry County Home and Education and for many years was the Scholarship Chairman of the Centegra Hospital Auxiliary Board.  She sang in the Woodstock Fine Arts Chorale during its existence.

Hazel worked for many years at the State Bank of Woodstock.  In 1995 she retired after 31 years as Administrative Assistant in the McHenry County Regional Superintendent of Schools office.

Hazel is survived by her children, Peggy (Ken) Thomas, Jim Kniebusch and Laurel (Jon) Sheahan; her grandchildren, Becky (Don) Goers, Brian (Kimberly) Thomas, Andrew (Tanya) Thomas, Megan (Matt) Quick, Erin Sheahan and Adam (Leanna) Sheahan; her great-grandchildren, Anna (Kent) Thornquist, Allison and Eliza Goers, Makayla and Jackson Thomas, Kendrick, Norah and Madeline Thomas, Tori and Lexi Quick, and Adley and Dawsyn Sheahan; and a great-great-grandaughter Lillian Thornquist; her sister, Barbara (late Edward) Carroll and special niece Kathy (Bob) Fosnaugh, special family friend Amber Steiger and several other nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on July 17, 2021, at the First United Methodist Church.  Interment will follow at the McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery in Woodstock.  Arrangements were made by Schneider Leucht Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, Woodstock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 201 W. South Street, Woodstock IL 60098.
