Glenn F. Walkington, 96, passed away on Sunday, March 4, 2018 in Sandpoint, Idaho.
He was born December 31, 1921 in Greenwood, IL to Howard and Olivene (Bumsted) Walkington. He married Sara Tuttle on July 2, 1944 in Greenwood.
Glenn worked on the family farm until he was drafted in 1945. He served in the US Army Paratroopers.
He continued farming after serving his country. In 1948 he joined his 3 brothers hauling milk from local dairy farms. At that time, milk was kept in heavy milk cans. Fortunately for “The Walkington Brothers”, a family business with a 50 year history, bulk tanks became available to farms in 1954. In 1986 Glenn and Sara sold their home in Woodstock, bought an RV, and retired to Green Valley Arizona.
Glenn was a lifetime member of the Woodstock Moose Lodge, and an avid Chicago White Sox fan. He enjoyed a good game of pinochle, 500, or cribbage. His favorite pastime was playing golf with family and friends.
Glenn is survived by his children, Geoffrey (Patricia) Walkington, Gary (Diane) Walkington, Greg (Nancy) Walkington, Trish (Jim) Overly, Paul (Joann) Walkington, John (Jeanne) Walkington, and Ruth (Jesse) Watson; daughter in law, Melody Walkington Kiefer; 23 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sara Walkington on March 22, 2017; a son, Phillip Walkington; great granddaughter, Maddie Finch; brothers, Robert and Howard; and sisters, Lois, Caryl, and Shirley.
