Donald E. Jarva

Donald E. Jarva, age 78, of McHenry, passed away May 16, 2021 in Barrington with his loving family by his side.

He was born on January 8, 1943 in Biwabik, MN, the son of Wayne and Hilma (Mattila) Jarva. He married the love of his life Patricia Licari on July 25, 1964 in Biwabik, MN.

Donald grew up in Gilbert, MN where his mother owned a famous café in town. He enjoyed taking care of his horses, riding, feeding and training them. After high school, he joined the Army and served for three years in Germany. Don became a truck driver and worked for Teamsters 705 in Chicago. He worked for Yellow Freight from 1983 until his retirement in 2002. He enjoyed going to bible class at Prince of Peace in Palatine every Wednesday to be with his friends. He loved fishing, working out in the gym, going for walks and traveling. He devoted his time to his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a loving and caring man who’s door was always open to anyone. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, his children Brenda Pedrys Jarva, Linda (Tedd) Bullock, Roger (Lisa) Jarva; grandchildren, Krista (Jeremy) Velmont, Sarah Pedrys, Tyler Pedrys, Brandon Pedrys and Zac Jarva; great-grandchildren, Adalynn Velmont, Roselynn Velmont, Kaysen Platz, Everly Heavirland, Rowan Heavirland, Luna Heavirland, Braylen Pedrys, Alaina Pedrys and Tyson Pedrys, brother Norman Jarva.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Donna Jarva, granddaughter, Amanda Pedrys, brother, Duane (Vivian) Jarva, sister, Nancy Kumpula, half-brother, Sid (Alice) Jarva, and a nephew, Craig Kumpula.

A Memorial Gathering will be held at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 932 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake, Il, 60014 on June 26, 2021 from 3:30 pm until the 4:30 pm Memorial Service. Inurnment will be determined at a later date.
