Donald Raymond Askleaf, age 80, of Woodstock, Illinois, passed away peacefully on February 2, 2024.
He was born in Gowrie, Iowa in 1943 to John and Leona Askleaf. After high school, he moved to Illinois to live with his sister Madelene and her family. While in Illinois, he began working for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, where he spent his entire career.
Don met the love of his life, Janna on the commuter train into the city. They married and moved to Arlington Heights and then to Woodstock where they both decided to put down roots. They attended church and were active in the community. After retirement from the railroad, Don worked part time at a jewelry store and regularly volunteered at the Railroad Museum in Union, Il. He was passionate about trains and loved reading and history.
Don is survived by his wife of 54 years, Janna and several nieces, nephews and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Madelene.
Funeral services will take place at Schneider Leucht Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home in Woodstock on Wednesday, February 7th at 11:00am. Visitation will begin at 10:00am prior to the service.
