David F. Stack, 86, of Woodstock, passed away on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born April 28, 1935 in Chicago to James and Mary (Lucid) Stack. He married Dorothy Bielawa, the love of his life, on October 12, 1957.
David’s career started at People’s Gas, Light & Coke Co., from which he retired in 1992 as supervisor of the customer service training department. In retirement, he was a bus driver for Family Alliance. He served in the US Army from 1955-1957. He was a long time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and an integral part of many ministries and volunteer opportunities, including Meals On Wheels, Woodstock Area Community Ministry, Eucharistic Minister, PADS, RCIA, and many more.
David enjoyed playing cards, reading, crossword puzzles, the Cubs, fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family; he loved watching movies starring Dom DeLuise, told a lot of Dad jokes, and had a wicked sense of humor. He took delight in his on-going prank with a hot teaspoon.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy; children, Philip (Brenda) Stack, David (Diane) Stack, Jane Maas, Eileen (Bob) Bergum, Ron (Lynn) Stack; grandchildren, Austin Stack, Cody (Ophelia) Stack, Katelin (David) Baker, Joseph Stack, Benjamin Bergum, Matthew Bergum, Chelsey Stack, Kristopher (Erin) Stack; great grandchildren, Sophia, Elliott, Dawson, Ezri, Esther, and a player to be named later; a sister, Anne Piekarski; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister, three brothers-in-law, and a son-in-law.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin and Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. Visitation will continue on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 9:30 at the Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 am at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Ave., Woodstock. Interment at Calvary Cemetery, Woodstock.
