Carol Raffel, 90, of Woodstock, passed away on August 30, 2021 at her home in Woodstock.
She was born May 9, 1931 to Ralph and Cora (Wilcox) Stecker in Greenwood Township. She married Ferdinand “Ferd” H. Raffel Jr., on December 13, 1953 at the First United Methodist Church in Woodstock.
Carol worked as a cashier for Bohn’s Ace Hardware in Woodstock for 29 years. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Woodstock for 65 years, and was a member of the Sewing Circle where she helped contributed to making lap quilts for nursing homes or those in need. Her hobbies were making baby quilts, needlepoints, and dish towels to name a few. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery, as well as baking and cooking the family recipes handed down from her mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children, Don (Cheryl) Raffel, Janette (Dan) Hess, and Barb (Keith) Sova; her grandchildren, Brittany (Marc) Hinderlider, Andrew Raffel, Renee Merz, David (Fiancé Bailey Dickinson) Hess, Brian Hess, Shannon (Greg) Topf, Rebecca (Dominic) Friedel-Juan; her great grandchildren, John McMahon, Alysia Foat, Aubrey Hinderlider, and Emma Hinderlider; a brother, Ralph Stecker; and a sister, Marian Lang; and sister-in-law, Anita Stecker; a special niece, Linda O’Donnell; as well as many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Bill Stecker; a sister-in-law, Shirley Stecker; and a brother-in-law, Ralph Lang.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at the Schneider Leucht Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave, in Woodstock from 10:00 am until the 12:00 pm Funeral Service.
Interment will follow in the McHenry County Memorial Park Cemetery in Woodstock.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, 1300 Kishwaukee Valley Rd., Woodstock.
