Arlene M. Beard

Arlene M. Beard, 83, of McHenry, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 3, 2022 at the Ignite Medical Resort in McHenry.

She was born October 24, 1938 in Chicago, the daughter of Benjamin and Genevieve (Bujor) Buyer.  She married William E. “Ed” Beard Sr. in 1957 in South Carolina.

She had worked for Countryside for many years and people called her the “Flower Lady”.  In earlier years, while raising her family she served as a Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, and volunteered in the school cafeteria.  Having lived in Wonder Lake and Woodstock for decades, they moved to Dyersburg Tennessee to enjoy their retirement.  Most recently, they moved back to McHenry to be near family.  They traveled the world, going to Alaska, Europe and China.

Arlene is survived by her husband, William “Ed” Beard Sr.; children, Mary Beard, William “Bill” (Sheila) Beard Jr., John (Sue) Beard, Susan (Daniel) Cooney; grandchildren, Lauren Beard, Tim Busby; a sister, Dory Vail, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother in law Richard Vail, brother in law and sister in law, Robert and Rita Beard, and a niece, Linda.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the Schneider Leucht Merwin Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Avenue, Woodstock from 10:00 am until the 12:00 pm Funeral Service.  Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery in Woodstock.
