Albert Steinwehe Obituary

Albert F. Steinwehe, Jr. age 100, of Woodstock, Illinois peacefully passed away on January 26, 2024 in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Des Plaines, Illinois on January 3, 1924 to Albert F. and Ida (Lange) Steinwehe, Sr.

Al loved everyone, especially his family. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his greatest joys and he was always so proud of each and every one of them. Al was so adored by his family and anyone that he encountered throughout his long life. He was the kindest, most thoughtful man and was always willing to help anyone. He was known to everyone as Papa, since he treated everyone like family. Al was an avid baseball fan, playing baseball for most of his life. Al loved the Cubs most of all, and rarely missed watching a game.

Al served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS New Jersey battleship, something he and his family were extremely proud of. Al loved to mention that his ship was the most decorated ship in the Navy, being involved in 11 major battles.

Al was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Irene (Olson) Steinwehe, his son, Lynn (Carol) Steinwehe, daughters Debra (Randy Sr.) Whiting and Lisa Steinwehe, brothers, Edwin “Lefty” Steinwehe and Robert “Dutch” (Elaine) Steinwehe, and sister, Marion (Charles) Reese. Al is survived by his daughter, Diane (Michael) Marks, grandsons Trace Marks, Randall (Melissa) Whiting Jr., Larry Ayres and Mike Ayres, granddaughters Cortney (Chad) Westbrook, Ashley (Mark) Rainey, Cas (Tim) Creighton and Kim Ayres, and great-grandchildren Blake, Chase and Miles Westbrook and Ethan, Landan and Braelan Creighton. He is also survived by his brothers, Don (Marylee) Steinwehe and Ray Steinwehe, and many nieces and nephews.
