Stanley "Stan" F. Jozwiak

Stanley F. Jozwiak, 91, of Woodstock, IL, peacefully passed away Sunday, May 27, 2018, with his family by his side.

Stan was born May 9, 1927, in LaSalle, IL to Stanley and Edith Jozwiak. He married Mary Ann Schlosser on October 11, 1952, in St. Mary's Church, Peru, IL.

Stan was educated in LaSalle, IL, attending St. Joseph Grade School and St. Bede Academy. He was a Boy Scout achieving the Life Rank. He excelled academically while participating in sports. He was an avid weightlifter and amateur boxer. He belonged to the LaSalle Barbell Club. Upon graduation in 1945, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps, the US Navy, and Marine Corp Reserve. Stan was a proud Marine, participating in the occupation of China at the close of WWII. He was called back to serve in the Korean Conflict while attending the University of Illinois-Champaign. He had attended LPO Community College where he played football. He finished his education at Bradley University, Peoria, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Stan started his career at Illinois Bell while attending school on the GI bill. He held various management positions throughout the state during his 38 year career. He was active in the Rotary Club, the Lions Club, and the Chamber of Commerce. And, was involved in many charitable events. During his working life, he coached St. Mary's Football, Little League and Teener League. He was involved in Boy Scouts.

Stan was also involved in the Marian Central High School's Fathers Club. He was a loyal Cubs fan and lived to see a World Series win. In his younger years, he and his friends enjoyed their weekend excursions to the Chicago Bears games. And, was excited to attend the 1985 playoff games leading up to the Bears' Super Bowl win. Upon his retirement, Stan enjoyed attending his grandchildren's concerts, dance performances and sport events. He belonged to the China Marine Association and enjoyed attending yearly reunions where he reminisced with fellow Marines. He also enjoyed reconnecting with his cousins at their yearly reunion. He looked forward to the second Wednesday each month when he and the Telephone Pioneers joined up for their monthly luncheon. Stan was a great mentor, friend, father, and husband. And, was always there for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. We miss Dad, but know that he is in a better place; in heaven with his son, John, and granddaughter, Amy. Now, Dad is in heaven playing the Marines' Hymn on his harmonica.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; his five children: Susan (Dave) Sweet of Woodstock, IL, Robert (Suzanne) Jozwiak of Vernon Hills, IL, Steven (Sara) Jozwiak of McHenry, IL, Julie Jozwiak of Woodstock, IL, and Janet Jozwiak of Woodstock, IL; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and, brother, James (Joan) Jozwiak of Portland, OR.

He was proceeded in death by his baby sister, Nancy Jozwiak; sister, Jean (Bud) Block; son, John Jozwiak; and, granddaughter, Amy (Michael) Thornton.

Friends and family will gather at St. Mary Catholic Church, 312 Lincoln Avenue Woodstock on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 from 9:30 am until the 11:00 am Funeral Mass. Interment and Military Honors will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Woodstock.
