Sofia “Babcia” Ptak, age 95, of Woodstock, passed away February 6, 2019.
She was born on July 13, 1923 in Nowosielec, Poland to Marcin and Agnieszka (Stoj) Iskra. She married the late Jan Ptak on May 21, 1941.
Sofia survived the Majdanek concentration camp and 5 years in slave labor in Salzburg, Austria. After many efforts as a family they finally were able to immigrate to the United States in 1958. She worked full time while taking care of her family for many years. She had a green thumb and had a passion for gardening. Sofia was an amazing seamstress and a chef that taught many to cook. She loved spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children; Christina (Stefan) Lang and Richard Ptak, grandchildren; Andrea Lang, Phillip (Lisa) Lang, John Lang, James (Sharon) Ptak and Katrina (Gregory Jacob) Poulisse, great-grandchild Wesley, brother Julian Iskra and many nieces and nephew here and in Poland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Jan, sister Mary Bielen and brother Bronislaw Iskra.
Visitation will be Tuesday February 12, 2019 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Schneider, Leucht, Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home 1211 N. Seminary Ave. Woodstock Il 60098. The visitation will continue Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 10:00am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church 312 Lincoln St. Woodstock IL 60098. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
