Shelley A. Tucker, 68, Woodstock, died suddenly Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at Centegra Hospital-Huntley.

She was born June 19, 1949, to Wallace and June (Swanson) Halvorson in Duluth, Minn.

On April 22, 1972, she married Irwin P. “Terry” Tucker Jr. They made their home in Woodstock.

She graduated from Freeport High School in 1967 and St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., in 1971.

Shelley and her family moved to Freeport in 1956. Always active, she was an accomplished synchronized swimmer, assisted with plays and was managing editor of the yearbook. She kept and nurtured a special group of high school friends for more than 60 years, the Pretzels, who became her second family. She loved the group’s yearly gatherings at Lake Geneva, Wis., delighted in her friends’ joys and never thought of herself. No matter what life tossed her, she found the positive side, frequently saying, “I’m fine.”

Shelley gave her all to everything she undertook. She was manager of the Woodstock Country Club for 25 years and then worked at McGladrey & Pullen in Crystal Lake. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Woodstock, an active member of Faith Circle for more than 10 years and a steadfast Clothing Closet for McHenry County volunteer. Shelley also was a devoted and vital member of PEO, a philanthropic women’s organization.

She enthusiastically participated in the Faith Circle Bible studies, fellowship and service projects and was truly a helping hand and gracious hostess, hosting her Circle friends for an annual June dinner out at Woodstock Country Club for several years.

All of Shelley’s PEO sisters admired her dedication and depended upon her for leadership, communication and joyfulness. She joined Chapter MC in 2002, served as president and held a number of other offices. She organized and worked tirelessly year after year on the chapter’s annual Christmas auction in support of PEO education grants and scholarships. Receipts from the auction grew annually. An even greater asset to the chapter may have been her semimonthly emailed Newsy Notes, which kept members connected and in the know.

She was a very special person and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Shelley is survived by her husband, Terry Tucker, Woodstock; her father, Wallace Halvorson; a brother, Dr. Scott (Susan) Halvorson; a sister-in-law, Libby (Earnest) Jones; her much-loved nieces and nephews, Jonathan Halvorson, Jennifer Ann (John Forsdike) Halvorson, Henry Jones and Elizabeth (Weathers) Hardwick; and a great-niece Alice Elsie Forsdike.

She was preceded in death by her mother.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at Grace Lutheran Church, 1300 Kishwaukee Valley Road, Woodstock. The visitation will continue at 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral Saturday, Jan. 13, at the church.

Interment will be private in Oakland Cemetery, Woodstock.

Memorials may be made to Grace Lutheran Church; PEO Cottey College, 1000 W. Austin, Nevada, MO 64772, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10004.
