Sandra T. “Blondie” Block, 83, of Woodstock, passed away on Thursday November 7, 2019 at her home. She crossed over peacefully to the harp sounds of a music soundtologist surrounded by her family.
She was born July 6, 1936 in Chicago to John and Theresa (Bialkowski) Schroeder. She had attended Beaubein Grade School and Schurz High School.
Sandra grew up with her best friend and sister, Victoria, across the street from her childhood sweetheart and husband of over 60 years, Chuck. He loved to tell their children how he knew she was the one from just watching her ice skate as he played hockey at their neighborhood park. She married Charles Edward Block on July 31, 1954 at St Cornelius Church in Chicago. She worked in an office until motherhood and then as a floral designer when her children went to high school. She crafted window well designs called "Sandy Scenes". Sandra enjoyed arts and crafts, wreaths and center pieces, and making custom dolls and other toys for her grandchildren.
She was an animal lover, and had many dearly cared for dogs, birds, fish - and even a pet skunk. A favorite story of her kindness toward animals was when she raised an orphaned baby robin that would continue to fly back to visit her after being released. Most recently she was very close with her cat, Ollie who will remain in the care of her family. She was a devoted Catholic, most recently a member of St Mary Church in Woodstock.
She is survived by her three children; eight grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband in 2013.
A visitation will be held on Monday, November 11, 2019 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Schneider Leucht Merwin Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Avenue, Woodstock. The visitation will continue on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at St. Mary Catholic Church 312 Lincoln Avenue, Woodstock from 9:30 am unit the 10:30 am Funeral Mass. Interment will follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Woodstock.
