Russell R. Schmidt Sr.

Russell R. Schmidt, Sr., 62, of Hebron died Tuesday, January 9, while snowmobiling in Mercer, WI.  Born in Elmhurst and raised in Addison, Russ graduated from Addison Trail High School in 1974.  Russ married Mary Scheiblein, whom he had grown up next door to, in September of 1980.  The two raised their four children in a house Russ built himself in Hebron.  Russ was a longtime member of the Local 150 Union of Operating Engineers and had recently retired from his work as a heavy equipment operator.  When he wasn’t out working in his barn on various projects, Russ loved snowmobiling, bicycling, and camping.  But above all, he always put his love for his family first. 

Russ is survived by his wife of 37 years, Mary Schmidt; his children Russell (Valeri) Schmidt, Jr., Nicholas (Ryan) Schmidt, Stephanie Schmidt, and Samuel (Megan) Schmidt; grandchildren Ethan Schmidt, Stephen Schmidt, Drew Schmidt, and Madison Schmidt; mother June Dougherty; siblings Michael Schmidt and Phyllis McNeely; in-laws Roger Scheiblein, Evonne Scheiblein, Lynn Scheiblein, Dianne Scheiblein, Susan Rodriguez, Mike Scheiblein, and Melissa Scheiblein; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Debbie Kaiszk Schmidt, his grandmother Dorothy Schmidt, and his father Lester Schmidt.

Memorial service and visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Resurrection Catholic Church at 2918 Country Club Road, Woodstock, IL.  Visitation will continue from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Resurrection Catholic Church.  Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gogebic County Sheriff’s Department Victim Services Unit in Bessemer, Michigan, or to Outreach at Resurrection Catholic Church in Woodstock, IL.
