She was born in Coleharbor North Dakota on October 16, 1930 to Fred and Lydia (Bender) Eman. She had 3 sisters, and 5 brothers. She was married to her former husband, Gene Lounder for 23 years.
She worked as an RN, and became the Charge Nurse in the Critical Care Unit at Granada Hills Hospital in CA, where she worked for 30 years. She liked to travel, visiting many places including Russia, China and the Scandinavia countries in Europe, often with a Medical Tour group. One of her favorite trips was a cruise through the Inland Passage in Alaska. Her hobbies included reading and collecting frog knickknacks and decorations. Red, appropriately, was Ruby’s favorite color.
Upon retirement she volunteered for the Guide Dogs of America in Sylmar CA. In 2003 she moved to Hearthstone Village in Woodstock IL to be closer to her grandchildren. She continued to volunteer, taking weekly blood pressure readings for residents and staff members alike. She was an officer in the Resident Council for most of her stay at Hearthstone and was a member of the Garden club where she was in charge of the garden at the front of the Village. She loved living at Hearthstone and was loved by many of both residents and staff at Hearthstone Communities.
She is survived by her daughters Tara (Steve) Proctor and Kym Gleckman; and her grandchildren, Nicole and Tom Proctor. She was preceded in death by her parents, many of her siblings, and son in-law Mark Gleckman.
A memorial service is scheduled for 1:30 pm on June 2nd at Hearthstone Village. In lieu of flowers memorials to Hearthstone Activity fund would be appreciated.
