Richard J. Teuber of Wauconda, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 8, 2018. He was born in Chicago, Illinois, on December 1, 1936. He was the son of August Teuber and Emilie (Orlofske) Teuber.
Richard proudly served in the United States Army from 1960-1962 as a draftee. He served during peacetime in the Medical Corps at Fort Lewis, Washington during his time of service to his country, which helped prepare him to care for his parents, for which his family is very grateful. He was a Union Bricklayer for many years. He worked on many interesting building projects in the city of Chicago. He later worked as a custodian for Prairie Grove District 46 until he retired. He was very knowledgeable about electricity and was the go-to man for the family when it came to electrical issues.
Richard enjoyed all things trains. He had a huge operating HO model railroad in his basement along with various Lionel collections. He spent countless hours tinkering with his models. He also collected railroad memorabilia including lanterns, locks & keys, and authentic paperwork. He also had various collections of spoons, coins, and photographs of lighthouses and outhouses. He was known in many circles for announcing his arrival with a wooden train whistle. We will all miss hearing that familiar sound.
Richard was very involved with St John Lutheran Church in Island Lake, Illinois and volunteering at Bethesda Resale Shop in Crystal Lake, Illinois. He was a wonderful Uncle devoted to the care of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents August and Emilie Teuber. He was survived by his brothers Robert (Marlene) Teuber, Roland (Lenore) Teuber, and Herbert (Robyn) Teuber.
He was a wonderful Uncle to Robert Teuber, Donna (Rich) Healless, Danielle (George) Shaw, Jenny (Frank) Gaillardet, Scott Teuber, David (Cherri) Teuber, Lori (Reiner) Hinner, Jim (Sandy) Teuber, Glenn Teuber, and Amy (Daniel) Saphir.
He was a Great-Uncle to Justen and Jeremiah Healless; Hadassah and Clarissa Gaillardet; Gabby and Garrett Hinner; Jessica and Cynthia Teuber; Gianna Onstot; Cole, Aidan, Jameson and Wyatt Teuber; and Drew and Carley Saphir. He was also a Great-Great Uncle to Maggie Healless.
The family would like to thank the caring and devoted staff at Centegra ICU and Cardiac Units in Huntley, Illinois and JourneyCare in Woodstock, Illinois for taking care of Richard so tenderly during his final days.
