Anthony James “Tony” Sahs, 51 of Woodstock, passed away Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the JourneyCare Hospice Inpatient Care Unit in Woodstock.

He was born in Woodstock on September 12, 1965 to Wayland and Rosemarie (Green) Sahs.  He graduated from Woodstock High School in 1983 and went on to attend McHenry County College.  He was employed at Woodstock Diecast and JayDee Concrete and then went on to work for the City of Woodstock Public Works.  While working for these companies, Tony served on the Woodstock Fire Department for 27 years.  His family owned the Whitehouse Tavern in Woodstock for over 50 years.  He was also a member of the Woodstock Moose Lodge.  Tony was a proud patriot of our country, and made sure to fly the flag in tribute.

He was big sports enthusiast, especially for the Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks. He was very superstitious and never missed a game.  Tony enjoyed being outdoors and learning about world history and astronomy.  Most of all, Tony loved spending time with his children, and having gatherings with those who were dearest to him.  Tony was kind and welcoming to everyone he met.  He was fun to be around and a loyal friend to many.  His laughter alone could lighten the entire room.

He is survived by his mother, Rosemarie Sahs; Kristin (Limbaugh) Sahs; his children, Christopher James “CJ” (Jody) Sahs, Alec Wayland Sahs, and Allison Laurel Sahs; his grandson, Cameron James Sahs; his brothers, Richard (Tina) Sahs, Gary (Diane) Sahs, and Phillip Sahs; along with four nieces and a nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father.

A memorial gathering and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2017 from 10am until the time of the memorial service at 1pm at the Schneider Leucht Merwin & Cooney Funeral Home, 1211 N. Seminary Ave. in Woodstock.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Woodstock Fire and Rescue Department.
